“Don’t judge” is a common phrase which we all have heard of and we too also use it as a joke or an excuse, but the truth is that judgement is perceived as toxic and you can get the worst insult by being called judgemental. I have always been a bit disappointed with myself for being unable to meet the sublime ideal of not judging and control my thought process while interacting with people or general public.
- When I see someone bold enough to argue with the teacher, I judge.
- When I see a mother shouting at her 2 year old son, I judge.
- When I see a rude man, I judge.
- When I see a person yelling at his colleagues, I judge.
- When someone cuts me off while speaking, I judge.
Not only me but these are only some out of many judgments which we humans make unintentionally or I can even say unqualified. I feel as much as people striving for non-judgemental ideal sounds appealing, it’s not something humanly possible. Ironically, I think making presumptions and assumption about something or someone is actually kind of normal unless they are toxic and can cause harm to somebody. But claiming that we are “not judging” is something absolutely absurd. We may all say that we are non-judgemental but the reality is something very different. We being humans tend to have our own opinions and make judgements when we witness different behaviors. Judgement is something which we desperately don’t want to face, but we ourselves cannot avoid judging because it’s obvious to human nature.

Open your mind to the world and the many different ways that can be found in it, before making hasty judgments of others. After all, the very same thing that you judge from where you are— may very well be something totally different in meaning on the other side of the world. The problem with making hasty judgments is that it will emphasize your ignorance at the end of the day.
Making judgements is okay, as it means reacting to people’s flaws with warmth and favor. But one should not rush to make negative assumptions and judge people today for the mistakes they made yesterday. Stop judging people by what you see, because you see what they want you to see.We cannot stop making judgements but we can minus the negative assumptions and focus on the positive one’s so that we all can have a positive environment to live. Judging the above situations in a positive way for example:-
- Maybe that student is right about something that’s why she is opposing the teacher.
- Maybe that mother is stressed due to sleepless nights or maybe she was handling all the tantrums of her son patiently for 98 times and what I saw was the 99th time when she lost her patience.
- Maybe that man is having a bad day.
- Maybe that person is under some pressure to complete a given work on time and his colleagues are not cooperating.
- Maybe he what he wants to speak is important.

When they judge you, yawn.
When they misunderstand you, smile.
When they underestimate you, laugh.
When they condemn you, ignore.
When they envy you, rejoice.
When they oppose you, prevail.
Stay Safe, Happy and Positive Everyone……

Believe it or not, judging others is more than usual. Something that is contradictory when many times we request that, please, stop judging our actions, our actions; because we judge and they judge us constantly, without being able to avoid it.
The point is, we cannot judge lightly.
Your poem about judging came out great. I have enjoyed reading you.

Yes. Even i feel Judging is a human nature, it’s like a stimulus to the things which happen around us. But it’s upto us to handle us judgements carefully enough, that we don’t hurt others by speaking them out.

Exactly….
We need to treat others as we want them to treat us.
There can always be a positive side of every judgement, everybody needs to find that.

You are right, we cannot stop judging but atleast we can keep those judgements to ourselves and see positive things instead of thinking worst.
As we do this for a long period of time, this becomes our natural behaviour to first fully understand the situation in which the person is and then form any perspective of them.

It is human to judge but what it is really doing is asking a deeper question, why? Why does that something bother us so? It begs us to take a deeper look at ourselves. We are all mirrors for each other. That something that I judge is something I am not looking at within myself. There’s a lesson to be learned in that. It’s all about acceptance. Of ourselves and then for others. Great thought provoking post my friend, thanks for sharing😊

Absolutely love the post Ava! You are right that we all have judged at some point in our life, no one can deny that, but the thing is it should not become a negative impression. Right? Just like you pointed those points of judgement and then a probable positive reason behind them. The problem is a lot of people don’t take it positively. They would rather think oh she is arguing with the teacher bcz she hates her or she is shouting at her child because she ain’t a good mother. That is where the problem lies.
We make negative judgements so quickly about someone whom we barely know.. that is the problem. I actually wrote an article on same some time back.
Very good post!

When we judge others, which we all do, God allows us to view ourselves. And once we can truly view ourselves, our own deficiencies, like those we view in others, become self evident. It is not a sin to judge righteously, as long as one includes oneself in the judgement. When we exclude ourselves in judgement, we move from righteous judgement to unrighteous judgement. Righteous judgement is hard, unrighteous judgement is easy. Blessings Ava.

There’s a concept called “positive intent” where you consider that someone’s actions are probably based on positive intentions because that’s the way we evaluate our own actions. We use it in education. It sounds exactly like what you hit on here!

I’d say that judgement is a step into conscious thought. To ‘not judge’ is to be aware of where that thought goes. The decision to remain positive.

Judging or what we usually mean by judging is our mind trying to rationalize situations and assess every event. We just don’t judge people, the weather, the food we eat , the work we do we tend to judge everything, more or less. And Maybe that even makes sense bcz judging means forming conclusions and having clarity, and looking from an evolutionary point of view, well we needed to judge that the Tiger wasn’t our friend just by looking at it’s actions alone. With that said, yeah we’re not living in some forest anyways although human society is a jungle in itself (just my personal opinion), and things aren’t always exactly the way they look. Although judging someone by looking what they want us to show is natural enough, idk whether we could completely stop doing something that has been passed onto our genes for thousands of years. We can however and we must not form firm conclusions just on the basis of what we see, for as you rightly said, every person has his/her own backstory and unless we know that, it’s improper to judge them. Ok am I just precisely repeating what you’d said all the while ?? 🙄 Ok then here’s a question, i, myself don’t really have to answer to it, but accepting the fact that the man who’s shouting at his colleagues maybe having a tough time in something, but still, our initial instinct is to form a negetive opinion on them, later on we realise that what we saw was just a tip of the iceberg and we’re forced to change our opinion on that guy. Now where’s the line between these two conflicting ideas? Is there any? And was I able to explain the question?. 🙄 I’m terrible at making people understand things. So… Anyways give it a thought

Well I guess we have some what same thinking, what’s say😂?
I glad that you took an initiative to ask me such an important question, I never had thought about it before, but now when I think I feel negative judgement is based on our fast instincts which comes by practice that is habit. But if we seriously want to stop negative presumptions they we need to start seeing the positive side of everything more often so that it gradually becomes an habit.
Anyways it’s always my pleasure to receive your opinion about articles.
Thank you so much 😊

Very well expressed Ava! I would rather say – to have a different point of view is human but remember not to share it unless asked for! In our side of the world, for generations we have encouraged people and society on the whole to judge us! It’s time we put an end to this and live life the way we want to without being influenced by others opinions about our way of life… To cut it short, why should the length of my hair or skirt be decided by any one other than me??!!

Love this post. I know I do it and others do it to me. Judging can lead to constructive criticism which can be helpful. Just had a conversation about litter and why people do it. We judge them and maybe rightfully so. Sometimes there are humans that just don’t care. You can’t say anything these days when you see it happen because you might get shot. I’ll stick with being silently judgmental and not dead then pick up the trash and put it in the trash can 2 feet away. 👍 😊 pet peeve. 😉

There’s a vast difference between constructive judging for the common good of self preservation or the smooth functions of a society that benefits everyone than harmful, nitpicking, destructive judgemental opinions and attitudes designed to cause pain, shame or discord.

Love this Ava…We are judgmental and it comes from a very human space…And when we look at something ,we start thinking and start analyzing it coz we are humans and our brain is not dead…It functions and thinks something as long as we are alive…But controlling what we can think and not jumping into anything negative and toxic is the key…Glad you wrote about this and saying “Don’t judge” is really over-rated…Love:)
