Country Needed Me Too!

I hope I make it home,
To see your head held high,
To say “Hi!” instead of “Goodbye!”.
To lay and wait for you to pry,
To be your loving guy,
To be the man for you to rely,
To marry, live, and die,
To make your laughter reach the sky.
If I don’t make it home,
It’s not because I didn’t try,
Remember you are not alone,
The last thing I wanted was you to cry,
You are my home.
Many words were left unspoken,
I wanted to make it back to you,
To present my love token,
But, for country I just had to do.
Through the day and night,
We heard the sound of gunfire,
I knew this would be my last fight,
To fight was my only desire.
I’m a soldier who will defend,
From beginning to the very end,
Costing something which can never be mend.
I know I broke my promise,
To be there to wipe away your tears,
And you still wish,
I could hug you and be near.
I always knew I will return,
Either standing with medals on chest,
Or in coffin wrapped in tricolour.
Forgive me for leaving you so soon,
But I had to as my country needed me too.

Patriotism consists not in waving the flag, but in striving that our country shall be righteous as well as strong.”

  1. Beautiful expression of emotions Ava. Yes patriotism goes way beyond just waiving the national flag occassionally. It is about living each day the right way to make the country a better place for everyone around .
    Stay blessed always
